Jane Christie-Johnston

Jane is a singer, choir director, event producer and our fabulous choir leader for this next Singing Adventure.

One of Jane’s greatest joys is to lead her choir ‘Sing For Your Life!’, which has grown from humble beginnings with 12 members in 2005, to well over 100 singers today. Jane’s teaching style is relaxed, informal, supportive and welcoming. “We don’t strive for perfection, and we don’t sweat the small stuff. We aim to make a fantastic sound and to just ENJOY it, soak up the harmonies and finish feeling rewarded,” she says. Jane teaches without the use of sheet music or instruments. Everything is taught by ear so no ‘technical’ skills are required.

But wait, there’s more – in addition, Jane is Director of Ho-Ho-Hobart Christmas Choir and Up She Rises. She also sings with award-winning a cappella ensemble ThylaSing and recently formed a new dance music collaboration with Queensland-based artist Dellandra.  She is also the current Chairperson of the Young Voices of Hobart Board.

In recent years, Jane’s three choirs have performed at many events including Hobart’s local Festival of Voices with the ‘Sing For Your Life’ choir having twice travelled to Ireland to sing in the Cork International Choral Festival, with another trip planned for 2026.

“These trips were the absolute highlight of my choral directing experience to date – travelling to another country to share our songs, meeting and singing for the locals and bursting into song in beautiful places was a dream come true. I’m really looking forward to capturing that same sense of joy and fulfillment on this Singing Adventure with Sharon and Pauline and the lovely group that will join us on this experience.”
